Originally, L’B came about while scanning the many ultrasound negatives, I was completing for a company during my freelance days well over 15 years ago. I was fresh out of advertising from college and constantly preaching how important it was to have a handle! Even myself, as a designer knew I couldn’t say no to anything and needed to keep designing anything and everything so I too could find who I was and who I wanted to be as an artist/designer. In the end, I felt like I was plagiarizing my own work and it all looked the same (to me). It was shortly after this time I stumbled across – experimenting in Phenomenology, “the process behind letting things manifest themselves.” L’B was born shortly after to stimulate curiosity. While at OCAD, there was a heated conversation where someone referred to God as simply being a higher unachievable version of self and instantly that is where I put L’B, on that unattainable pedestal of all things that were cool (to me) – he became my cooler alter self. I embraced reactions and interpretations of those who viewed him, as their response often reflected the psyche of the viewer.
Looking back, I never took credit for the idea, but I saw one and I built a home with it at the center of my world. L’B came from a paper decal on the street corner to a seal that rests on our lawyer’s office. L’b has become more than just a brand. He has become my life compass as I strive to be the best version of myself and reminder of where we came from.
Almost every project here represents that basic principle, where visuals become tangible with simple design at the root. No-one is ever considered a one-off under our roof; even when that is all you have. If experience has taught us anything – we all started with one! And the best designed logo is often the one left standing.! So many humble beginnings could be so lucky.
The simplicity of shape and use of classic principles involving art and design – line, shape/form, space, value, colour and texture – to create a composition as a whole adding a contemporary feel is what we aim for with you in mind.
As designers first, we try to emphasize the delicate and draw the attention to the elegant and functional details that allow unnecessary noise to be removed in an evolving design, giving purpose and longevity.
